Layouts you can rebuild in any spreadsheet you already have.

These are descriptions of structure, not files to download or products to buy. Recreate whichever layout fits your team in Google Sheets, Looker Studio, or on a whiteboard if that's what gets used.

The Weekly KPI Snapshot

One row per KPI, four columns wide: this week's number, last week's number, the direction of movement, and a one-line note explaining anything unusual. Nothing else on the page. The point of a weekly snapshot isn't depth, it's speed. It should take under a minute to read and under two minutes to update.

Colour is used sparingly here: a neutral tone for "within expected range" and a single accent colour for "needs a look." Avoid red-amber-green for every row, since a page full of colour stops meaning anything.

The Monthly One-Page Report

Three charts, never more, stacked vertically or arranged in a simple grid. Each chart carries a title written as a question it answers, not as a label. "Are we retaining customers longer than last quarter?" reads better than "Retention Rate Q3."

Underneath each chart, a single sentence of context: what changed, and one plausible reason why, clearly marked as a hypothesis rather than a confirmed cause. This habit alone prevents a lot of overconfident conclusions from spreading through an organisation.

The Dashboard Review Meeting Agenda

A dashboard left unread doesn't help anyone. A short recurring meeting built around one is where the value actually gets extracted. Twenty minutes is usually enough: five to walk through the three KPIs, ten to discuss what might explain any unexpected movement, five to decide whether any KPI needs replacing next quarter because it's stopped being useful.

Keep a standing note titled "questions we couldn't answer this week." Reviewing that note over a few months tends to reveal exactly where a dashboard's data quality or scope is weakest.

A Simple Status Layout

When you need a status view instead of a trend view.

Goal statement

One line stating the target the KPI is measured against, written before you look at the number.

Current figure

The number itself, alongside the date it was last refreshed, always visible together.

Direction over time

A small sparkline covering the last eight to twelve periods, not a dramatic full-height chart.

Owner

The name of the person who can explain this number if asked, printed directly on the tile.

A note on why nothing here is downloadable

We deliberately describe structure in words rather than distributing pre-built files. A template copied without understanding why each part exists tends to get filled with the wrong three KPIs, just neatly formatted. Rebuilding the layout yourself, even roughly, forces the useful decisions: which numbers, which comparison period, which owner. That thinking is the actual value, not the grid lines.
